LANGUAGE COACHING | LATIN, ACADEMIC GERMAN | COURS DE LANGUE INDIVIDUEL | PERSONALISIERTE SPRACHKURSE
Are you struggling with modern languages?
Do you need to read academic publications in foreign languages, like German or French?
Or are you interested in ancient languages, like Latin...?
Depending on your subject and your own specialism, you will find that you need other foreign languages for your studies and your research. Many humanities subjects are very international and you limit yourself significantly if you only engage with scholarship in your native language. For example, papers in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish are often essential for many more advanced studies regarding, for example, the ancient world. And many archaeological reports are often only published in the local language.
We don't intend to give you an introduction to German or French (or English if required) and we are not going to learn how to order a coffee or pizza in another language.
Our main aim is to help you with academic writing and academic language.
What does this mean? First, reading an academic paper in a foreign language can be challenging, even if you already have a basic knowledge of that language.
You may not have to learn an entire language. It always depends on your needs: for instance, perhaps you only need to consult an excavation report or a coin catalogue in another language: just the basics words are enough to understand the information you require.
But perhaps you also need to write a paper or article in German, French or English and you are struggling to find the right words for an academic publications?
We can do this as a one-to-one session via Skype or as a group session, as a regular session or just the focused help for a particular assignment. We can also meet face-to-face, for example for a block seminar. Contact us to discuss what suits you best and what you want us to cover.
Do you need to know some basics for your research project at university? Are you struggling with grammar or vocabulary? Or you need to understand that special academic, scientific jargon in French or German for your discipline? Are you worried about your Latin exams?
Being fluent in several modern languages as well as Latin (and Greek), we can certainly assist you with a range of languages and whatever your linguistic knowledge is like.
Just let us know what you need. But remember, we are not really offering a translation service as such. The main aim is to improve your skills and show you how to excel in your studies.

Remember that you will hardly ever find a one-to-one equivalent for a word in another language. Some online dictionaries can help you to check out the diverse meanings and connotations of words in order to chose the right one for your task.
